Who Is The OHSMS For?

The plan has been designed to assist organisations with their environmental performance by providing a "standardised" approach to developing OHSMS. The plan is suitable for use by Principal Contractors, Sub-contractors and self employed trades' persons operating within the Australian building and construction industry.

What Does The OHSMS Comply With?

The OHSMS outlines the requirements for the management of OHS by relevant organisations such as WorkCover, WorkSafe, Councils, Federal and State government agencies and meets all requirements of:

  • Australian Standards AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Specification; with guidance for use;
  • WHS Act and regulations;
  • State and federal Government guidelines for the OHS management; and
  • NOHSC:1016 National Standards for Construction Work.

What Makes Our OHSMS Unique?

Our OHSMS manual has been structured to efficiently manage OHS at corporate and project levels. Our OHSMS package comes in two sets:

  1. The OHSMS manual set that includes the policies, procedures, practices and performance standards of the organisation; and
  2. The Project-specific OHS management Plan (PSMP); a document that sets out the specific OHS resources, consultation and risk management processes, responsibilities, procedures and practices, for a particular project.

With this type of structure you will only need to customise the PSMP for each individual project. See below the structure of our OHSMS documentation.

What Is The OHSMS Suitable For?

The manual is suitable for 'construction works' and includes any of the following:

  • Building works, including the construction, alteration, renovation, repair, maintenance and demolition of all types of buildings (residential single dwelling, medium to high density development, high rise residential developments, commercial and industrial premises); and
  • Civil engineering, including the construction, structural alteration, repair maintenance and demolition of for example, airports, docks, harbours, inland waterways, river and sea defense works, roads and highways, railways, bridges, and tunnels, viaduct, and works related to the provision of services such as communications, drainage, sewerage, water and energy supplies.

The manual can also be used to:

  • Gain certification to AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety management systems standards; or
  • Gain accreditation to the Federal Safety Commissioner' accreditation scheme; or
  • Gain prequalification to State Government agencies such as the Department of Commerce, Vic Roads, Roads and Traffic authority of NSW and other similar agencies; or
  • Just claim that your systems are compliant to AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety management systems standards if you don't want to go through the certification process
